Many of us tend to squirm at the thought of reading poetry, whereas many of us naturally gravitate towards it. Unfortunately, I used to belong to the first category until two years back. Thanks to an excellent tutor I discovered that reading poetry could be fun, could be like an investigation and extremely satisfying.
Under this fun task we will be:
- Acquiring tools for the study of poetry
- Make an attempt to understand poetic language, its forms and effects
- Look at the importance of the background knowledge of the age, biographical knowledge of the author and the importance of the reader
- Proceed to apply our knowledge to Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales ( I can hear some of you saying, “Oh no!” but trust me and just hang in there).
